About Angelica Earls

A short history of who I am and why I create my Tree of Life art.

I have always enjoyed art and creating beautiful things.  As a young schoolgirl I began by drawing charcoal sketches of the landscape, especially trees, and people around to me.  Drawing was very relaxing and I dreamed of one day being an artist.  Unfortunately, the creative spark within me was not immediately unleashed.  As a young single mother of two beautiful girls I did not the time to continue with my dream.  The creative spark, though, was never extinguished and through the years I would find a couple of moments, grab my pencils and paper, and create a sketch.  Then as my daughters were nearly grown up, I remarried and started a new chapter in my life which included a blessed little baby boy.  My new son would become and remains my inspiration.  He is autistic.  At a very young age my son and I discovered he loved to paint pictures with watercolors and finger paint.  It is an activity we still cherish doing together and our home is adorned everywhere with his pictures.  Still, as my son is autistic, I devoted all of my time teaching him to speak, take care of himself, and in recent years have become his primary school teacher after we decided to home school him due to a series of bad incidents in the public school system.  Now, as my son has gotten older he is more self-directed and, consequently, I have found time to allow the creative spark to grow.

I have always felt a connection with Nature, which you might say is mystical.  It is a bit hard to explain but trees, flowers, and other fauna speak to me.  They reach into my heart and touch it with their essence and beauty.  Then one day, after attaching a wire hanger to the back of one of my son’s pictures so it could be hung on the wall of his room, I took the remaining wire and started twisting and bending the wire.  After about 15 minutes, I sat my creation in front of me.  Without fully realizing what I had done I had created a miniature tree.  My son and husband both thought it was beautiful.  From that day, the spark is now fully aflame and I have started to fulfill my dream of being an artist.
A single tree is the center focus of my creative work.  This tree, which some call the Tree of Life, the Norse call Yggdrasil, or by whatever name you like, calls to my soul.  I have found several ways to express this calling by using wire, paintings, and jewelry.  Though I can never come close to expressing the beauty and grandeur of Nature, I sincerely hope as you look at my custom handmade creations, Nature is able to speak to you also.
